An Expensive Lesson

January 25th, 2007 at 05:06 pm

I have been soooo busy lately. I have not been on top of things since right before Christmas and it’s really taking its toll. We are eating out a lot again and just spending way too much on food. I had been on top of the coupon thing but haven’t had time (and I do find it somewhat time-consuming). We also bounced a bunch of transactions last week and were charged $480 for doing so. Question…why didn’t the bank just refuse the charges (like the good old days) and not allow you to spend more? Answer… because they will charge you $32 per transaction. I am taking full responsibility for this. It has been years and years since we’ve bounced anything. I knew we were cutting it close but when I checked online it didn’t look that bad and I transferred $$ right away. Well, the online stuff is not very accurate and the problem had already occurred by the time I transferred some $$. SO FRUSTRATING. Who has an extra $480 lying around to give to the bank? It’s not like I have a chronic problem with this. They did call me and say they would cut the fees in half ($240). I guess it’s better than nothing. So I will spend my weekend catching up and figuring out just how bad things are. I’m sure we will be able to cover everything, but we really need to stop the bleeding. My online class ends this week so I will have more time/energy to devote to getting back on track. Sigh….
